The
Department of Philosophy celebrated the Philosopher’s Day 2016, with much
enthusiasm on the iconic feast of St. Thomas Aquinas on 28th of
January. The festive Concelebrated Mass was presided over by Very Rev.Fr. Ashok
Stephen (OMI). The Memorial Oration, named after the great scholar late Rev.
Fr. Harold Panditharatne was the highlight of the day. Doing justice to the
name of a celebrated and respected scholarly clergyman, the guest speaker Dr.
Dayan Jayatilleka made his outstanding oration. Living up to both his incalculable
knowledge and powerful oratory skills, he addressed the gathering on “The role
of Philosophy forming character and fostering creativity.”Diploma holders of
the batches 2012-2014 and 2013-2015 were awarded their certificates by Dr. Dayan
Jayatilleka. Students of Philosophy at the National Seminary convey their
grateful appreciation for all the trouble taken and responsibility shouldered
by the Rector of the National Seminary-Very Rev. Fr. Elmo Dias, the Director of
the Philosophate-Rev. Fr Ajith Fernando, and the Dean of Philosophy-Rev. Fr.
Ajith Wellington (OMI). The day indeed shined in all its depth and wisdom in a
manner so fitting the occasion. It was both a day of wisdom and colourful
vibrancy.
